Kitchen knife production processes

The knives we come into contact with every day are finished products. As for how a knife is gradually transformed from the raw material into a sharp kitchen knife, many people may be curious about it.

This section will show you the key processes of production, you can see exactly how kitchen knives are made. Knives with different structures have different production processes and manufacturing technology. The following picture clearly shows the process and key steps of different knives in production:

I will briefly explain some key steps for you.

1. Cutting

According to our or customer’s development requirements or design and produce the blade mold, then install the mold on the stamping machine, and use the stamping machine to punch the stainless steel plate out of the shape of the knife.

2. Heat treatment

The kitchen knife blade is heated to 1000 degrees Celsius by an electric furnace and then quenched. Through this process, the structure of stainless steel will be changed, so that the blade has higher hardness and toughness.

3. Welding

In this process, the handle will be welded to the blade so that the whole knife has a complete prototype. If it is a knife with a hollow handle, the two halves of the handle will be welded together, just like closing the fairing of a rocket.

4. Handle polishing

This process is to polish the assembled handle, so whether it is the handle assembled with other materials, or the handle of welding or injection molding, a smooth and bright surface treatment effect can be obtained after this process. it’s very comfortable to hold it in your hand.

5. Blade polishing / Surface grinding

In this polishing process, the initial polishing is carried out with a water mill to remove rust from the blade, obtain the desired bevel structure, and reveal the original color of the steel.

Then use the rubber wheel for fine polishing, so that the knife face has a bright luster. This will be based on sanding, mirror light, bright light and other different effects, take different degrees of polishing process, in order to achieve different results.

6. Sharpening

By grinding the blade with grindstone or abrasive belt, you will get a sharp edge. Up to this process, the most complete structure of a knife is complete, and it also has all the conditions for a knife as a cutting tool.

7. Cleaning, inspection and packaging

After the production of a knife, the final cleaning will be carried out to make the finished product clean and flawless. After cleaning, a final quality inspection will be carried out to ensure that the products sold are qualified. After the quality inspection is passed, it will be packed, boxed and shipped.
