Due to the variety of materials and processing methods of the kitchen knife handle, the kitchen knife can still produce thousands of different styles under the premise that the knife blade type is basically fixed.
This article mainly introduces the structure and processing method of plastic handle. Generally speaking, there are four main types of processing methods based on different structures:
1. Insert by pressure
2. Injection molding
3. Assembled by rivets
4. Ultrasonic welding
Let’s take a look at the specific process one by one.
1. Insert by pressure
In the case of using this process, the blade and handle need to be produced separately, and then through pressure, the blade will be inserted into the handle to make them one. The handle can be a one-shot injection forming or a secondary injection forming, which can be made according to different requirements. The part of the blade inserted into the handle is an inverted hook structure, which will make it firmly embedded in the handle. Of course, this structure still has the risk of blade and handle falling off.
2. Injection molding
This structure is so similar to the first one that it is difficult to see the difference in the finished product. In fact, their processing methods are completely different.
The first method is to connect the blade to the handle by insertion, while this process is to put the blade directly into the mold of the handle and then inject the handle into the blade. There is still an inverted hook on the blade of this method, which is directly integrated with the handle by injection molding, making it more stable and almost impossible to fall off.
3. Assembled by rivets
This structure is a real Full Tang structure, and the blade and middle part of the handle is directly integrated. A hole is reserved in the middle part of the handle, and then the prefabricated plastic handle is assembled by rivets.
4. Ultrasonic welding
This structure is very similar to the third, except that the prefabricated plastic handle piece is welded to the blade by ultrasonic wave, rather than assembled by rivets. This method can omit the rivets and make the handle more beautiful.
